Hello Glenwood Springs art community and beyond. I wanted to let you know about a fantastic new show at the GSAC Gallery 216 6th St. featuring natural textiles in art. All of the fabrics used in this new show up on the walls are made from sustainable fabrics. We have three artists, Jill Scher, Terry Lee and Enviro Textiles. That being said ,next week is Earth Day, however we plan on celebrating it for the entire week by being open extended hours to educate as many people as possible on the importance of using sustainable fibers. In addition Enviro Textiles will be open to the public that week to Johnson mentored many young musicians, as well as sharing his talents throughout the further explain the importance of hemp, cocoa fiber, and other materials. Both Barbara and Summer will be able to show you around and explain the processes involved.
A week from this Thursday the 24th we have International Jazz Day at The Vaudeville . This year we have Chris Bank as a guest and Josefina Mendez with the smooth players. Also, we have Dave Poulsen and Elements Jazz. Plenty of dancing and good times for all. We will pay homage to one of our area musicians that has passed. Mark valley with his wonderful music. We will be sending some of our tickets sales to the family .
These are both fundraisers for us as we give a lot back to the community through events, such as these. These events and shows help us raise money for other events.
We will be putting up our big tent towards the end of this week, allowing for valley with his wonderful music. We will be sending some of our tickets sales to the Valley Bluegrass Jam to return to the tent for their outdoor performances every Sunday from 6 to 8 PM. This will be their third year under the tent. Our tent is available for anybody to use for artistic adventures. We are also adding a piano this year so the community can hit a few notes on their way by. We also have a book library that has been extremely popular! In honor of one of our artists who has passed, Lightning Heart also known as Fred Haberlein we give away free crystals. Fred would keep special crystals in his pocket to give away to friends and strangers. We were blessed to have him. The Arts Council gallery keeps a good stock of free coloring books and pencils for kids in the community and adults who like to color as well. The book library, in addition to offering free coloring books, is an initiative by the Arts Council to provide children with an avenue to explore art beyond the confines of their cell phones.
